"There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God, the Father of all."

The R.C.I.A. at St. Kevin's

At any time of the year, there are persons who inquire about our Catholic Christian community and who desire to become members of the Catholic church.

And there are always Catholics who are Catholics in name only and are interested in learning more about their faith and in receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.

The St. Kevin's R.C.I.A. experience is really a moment of grace for these persons who are searching and inquiring.

If you are aware of anyone who feels called to our Catholic Community or who is at the point of wanting to own their Catholic faith more seriously, please invite them to contact Fr. Norman Bordage, CSC or Father James Mulligan, CSC at the Parish Office -905-735-5885.

About the R.C.I.A.

  • R.C.I.A. stand for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It is a process of preparation for persons wishing to become Roman Catholics and for Catholics who have very little understanding of their faith or commitment to their faith.

  • The Roman Catholic tradition and experience is very old and profoundly rich. Our faith as Catholics sustains us in time of crisis; helps us to carry the cross the Lord sends our way; gives meaning and purpose to our lives; and furnishes us with a great sensitivity to the way the Lord speaks to us in our everyday life. This is a faith tradition that must be shared with others. Ours is a faith tradition that others will find so very deep and meaningful. The R.C.I.A. experience is the church's preferred way of sharing that faith tradition and telling the Catholic Christian story.

  • The R.C.I.A. brings together a team of committed St. Kevin's parishioners with those who are searching, wishing to know more about our Roman Catholic tradition.

  • The R.C.I.A. is a journey, a journey of faith. A group of people, team members and searchers, travel together from mid-September to Pentecost, meeting during Sunday Mass after the homily, and gathering Monday evenings in the Hospitality Room.

  • The R.C.I.A. journey is a very rich experience for the entire parish, for the parishioners who journey with those looking to enter the church or with those who wish to deepen their commitment as Catholics.

  • The R.C.I.A. learning experience is founded both on the Word of God that we hear at each Sunday Eucharist and on the liturgical prayer of the St. Kevin's community throughout the church year: Advent, Christmas. Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Pentecost and Ordinary Time.

  • In the R.C.I.A. experience, adults learn from the lived experience of each other. The interest and questions of the searcher can add new perspective to the faith of the committed Catholic Christian; believers, can be a source of joy and new hope for the searcher, in their witness and in their readiness to share their own faith experience.

  • Father Norm is part of St. Kevin's R.C.I.A. Team. Please contact him for further information on the R.C.I.A. and for the detailed calendar of the 2009 – 2010 St. Kevin's R.C.I.A. experience.
